The impact that ChatGPT and AI chatbots will have on the educational system is one of the main concerns that people have. Will humans no longer need to master specific talents because to chatbots’ technological prowess? Some schools are completely preventing teacher and student access to ChatGPT on their networks in order to address this problem. One professor has adopted a very different strategy.
Professor Ethan Mollick from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School has embraced the usage of ChatGPT and AI in all of his seminars. His policy establishes a requirement that students utilise AI in the classroom and become proficient in its application.Mollick gave his pupils his instructions to utilising AI to write in order to maximise their usage of the technology. He then gave the class a project that asked them to create a five-paragraph essay using at least five ChatGPT prompts.
No matter how descriptive the responses to the first challenge were, they consistently produced a lousy C- essay. However, students were able to improve the outcomes by utilising other prompts that offered better instructions. The best outcomes were achieved by students who co-edited the essay with ChatGPT and offered user expertise.
According to Mollick, students aren’t really making an attempt to work with the chatbot to develop high-quality content, which is why teachers frequently find lacklustre outcomes when they have their students copy and paste information from ChatGPT.
Producing quality AI-written content is not easy, according to Mollick. “Both subject knowledge and skill are required to get an AI to produce meaningful content.”
Even if he didn’t accept AI, according to Mollick, it is present everywhere. Students were already using the AI chatbot to create project ideas before he told them how to do it. The outcomes of using AI to help with project concept generating were likewise favourable.
As a result, Mollick claims that this semester’s projects are considerably better than those from earlier pre-AI sessions. “This has increased project success rates and increased team engagement.”
Mollick did observe drawbacks, such as fewer pupils raising their hands during class since they can just ask the chatbot for a detailed explanation afterwards without having to speak.
Ever since its release, ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, has made waves across the globe. Many people experiment with it and try to test its abilities. Not only that, but several people are also using ChatGPT to complete their assignments. Now, a recent post shows a student using this AI to complete their assignment; however, their teacher quickly realied that the essay had been written from ChatGPT.
In a post shared by Twitter user Justine Moore, she shared an image of the assignment. The student must have asked the AI to write an essay on Twelfth Night, a play by Shakespeare. However, while printing the assignment, they didn’t notice the first paragraph where the ChatGPT informed them that it is an AI model and won’t be able to help complete the assignment. The teacher pointed this out and wrote, “ChatGPT. Rewrite this assignment in your own words.”
